Area of Accounting BBA Undergraduate Program

All businesses need accountants and auditors to oversee their financial, technology, and internal control operations, provide tax planning and compliance, and offer management consulting services and other business advice.  As the amount and complexity of both financial and non-financial information grows, so will the demand for accounting professionals who can interpret and analyze the data to aid in decision making. Students graduating with an undergraduate degree in accounting will be prepared to make immediate contributions in these areas, and to grow and develop into productive, successful professionals. The program is designed to provide students with a broad set of skills that they can use in a variety of careers.

Program Objectives

The BBA in Accounting program has been designed so individuals may plan courses of study to meet their particular goals.  Students who select the BBA in Accounting are likely to pursue one of the following career paths:

      --  Preparing to enter corporations and private companies in accounting and related roles;
--  Preparing to enter federal, state, and local government and not-for-profit organizations;
--  Using their training in accounting to move into other business areas, small public accounting         firms, and entrepreneurship activities;
--  Using accounting as preparation for graduate degrees such as the MSA, MBA or Law

Accounting students develop a broad overall education, a solid grounding in the common body of business knowledge, a thorough understanding of accounting basics, comprehension of the foundations of doing business in a global environment, and fundamental exposure to essential ethical considerations.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills -- Students are able to give and exchange information within a meaningful context and with appropriate delivery and interpersonal skills.  They are also able to influence, inspire, and motivate others to achieve results.

Strategic and Critical Thinking Skills
-- Students are able to link data, knowledge, and insight together to provide quality advice for strategic decision-making.

Interpretation of Converging InformationStudents are able to interpret and provide a broader context using financial and non-financial information.

Technological Expertise – Students are able to utilize and leverage technology in ways that add value to customers, clients, and employers

Professional Proficiencies – Students are aware of external reporting requirements of corporations and can use externally reported data to analyze liquidity, solvency, and profitability; can utilize internal accounting information for planning, control, and decision making; understand the structure of the United States tax system and basic compliance issues for individuals and corporations; and design and implement electronic information systems to disseminate and control accounting data in a business entity.
